The full definition of Scientology as given in Basic Dictionary of Dianetics and Scientology is:

"Scientology: Scientology applied religious philosophy. It is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, universes and other life. Scientology means scio, knowing in the fullest sense of the word and logos, study. In itself the word means literally knowing how to know. Scientology is a 'route,' a way, rather than a dissertation or an assertive body of knowledge. Through its drills and studies one may find the truth for himself. From the very early days of the Church of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology's founder, was very clear on this point of belief in Jesus Christ and instructed the earliest ministers of Scientology in this fashion:

"Beyond explaining one's all-denominational character, explaining that one holds the Bible as a holy work, one should recognize that the clergy of Western Protestant churches defines a minister or the standing of a church by these salient facts: Jesus Christ was the Savior of Mankind, Jesus Christ was the Son of God. We in Scientology find no argument with this and so in discussing Scientology with other ministry one should advance these two points..."

Here is a quote from the encyclopedic reference book: "What is Scientology". This book was a New York Times bestseller and is the authoritative guide on Scientology doctrines, beliefs, and ecclesiastical structure.

"The Church of Scientology has always encouraged its staff and parishioners to see medical doctors to handle the physical aspects of any illness or injury. Once a Scientologist with a physical condition receives the needed medical treatment he can resume his auditing (spiritual counseling) and so handle any physical trauma connected with the physical condition. Many medical doctors are also Scientologists."

Scientologists believe that medicine is necessary for solving physical problems.

However, Scientologists do disagree with the methods of psychiatry, which modernly has become a branch of medicine. Scientologists take offense to many of the enforced and harmful psychiatric methods of involuntary commitment, forced and heavy drugging, electroconvulsive shock treatment, lobotomy and other psychosurgical operations. A Scientologist would believe that such physically damaging practices are unnecessary.

L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology (click here for L. Ron Hubbard's video biography on youtube), actually travelled to South Africa to fight apartheid and drafted legislation that would have given equal rights and would have eliminated discrimination had it been enacted.

More modernly, Scientologists espouse and support the U.N.'s "Universal Declaration of Human Rights". The International Association of Scientologists has sponsored one of the most broad-scale human rights education programs in the world. You can check out the website for that at that link. Part of the Universal Declaration is - "Don't discriminate" and "We all have equal rights under the law."

What is more, it is a matter of Scientology belief that "all men of whatever race, color or creed are created with equal rights". This is actually a part of the Creed of the Church of Scientology, as you can watch below.
